West Haven’s Prevedel Park closed due to safety concerns after fire, fire officials said

SALT LAKE CITY — Prevedel Park in West Haven closed to the public on Saturday after a grass fire started on Friday night at the park.

According to Weber Fire District, the fire started around 7:49 p.m. on Friday.

“Thick black smoke was visible from a distance,” the fire district said. “Upon arrival, crews encountered a rapidly spreading fire with four campers trapped by the flames.”

According to the WFD, Ogden City Fire and Hill Air Force Base Fire also responded to the incident. Firefighters were able to evacuate the area and no one was injured at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the fire was accidental, ignited by a campfire that spread into surrounding cotton debris,” the WFD said.

According to firefighters, the Prevedel Park was closed as of Saturday for safety reasons.
