SALT LAKE CITY — A 47-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle near downtown Salt Lake City on Friday night.
Sgt. Kevin Blue with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the crash happened around 10:16 p.m. at 414 W. 500 South.
Blue said the woman was crossing the street when she was struck by the vehicle, but it was unknown whether she was in a crosswalk when she was hit.
“We happened to have an officer in the area and actually heard the crash, immediately rushed to her, but unfortunately she was beyond help,” Blue said. “We couldn’t get her back and she was pronounced (dead) there at the scene.”
Blue added that there’s a lot of pedestrian traffic in the area where the woman was hit.
“The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” Blue said.
Blue said the woman had been identified and next of kin was being notified.
