Salt Lake City FD responds to garage fire

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a garage fire Saturday night to start off the Fourth of July weekend.

The fire, located at 366 E. Williams Ave. was a detached garage to a single-family home, and it was first reported shortly before 8 p.m.

The family was not at home at the time of the fire. The garage fully involved when first responders arrived to the scene.

“We initially had an offensive attack,” said Salt Lake City Fire Department Captain Anthony Burton to KSL NewsRadio. “As to where we were aggressive and went inside, but then we had a section of roof collapse, so we withdrew and became defensive and no one was injured.”

Burton said  a power line that had come down behind the garage, creating problems for firefighters in putting out the fire.

Burton said it took first responders 30 minutes to get the fire under control, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
