SALT LAKE CITY — Starting in the fall, students in the Salt Lake City School District will have different bus schedules due to two audits.

The two audits, one from 2022 and another from 2024, found problems with the busing system for students. The issue was that there were three different bus schedules, depending on the students’ grade.

District Spokesperson Yandry Chatwin said the problems were worse for families with multiple children.

“Some of that was due to conflicting school schedules across the district, especially for families who had children attending multiple schools,” Chatwin said. “… If we have a middle schooler, a high schooler, and an elementary student who all have to take three different buses, that becomes a challenge if all those buses are leaving at completely different times.”

It also posed challenges for field trips and early-out days.

Chatwin said that in the fall, the district will reduce the number of bell schedules to one at 8 a.m. and one at 8:45 a.m., to address the busing issue.
