UPDATED: 14-year-old boy drowns at Newcastle Reservoir

UPDATE: Iron County Sheriffs, Intermountain Lifeflight, SUU helicopters, and dive teams all coordinated efforts to find the 14-year-old boy’s body at around 5 a.m. on June 12.
SALT LAKE CITY — Earlier this afternoon, Cedar Communications received a 911 call regarding the drowning of a 14-year-old boy at Newcastle Reservoir.
According to Lt. Dave Mitchell, deputies said two brothers were both kayaking. One, 17-years-old and the other was 14-years-old, neither wearing lifejackets. Furthermore, deputies reported both brothers attempting to knock each other out of their Kayak.
Additionally, the 14-year-old did not know how to swim and went under in around 10-12 feet of water. Lt. Dave Mitchell said the 14-year-old had been under the water for approximately 10 minutes when deputies arrived.
Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies, Rescue 31 paramedics, State Dive Team members from Iron and Washington Counties, along with Lifeflight helicopter responded to the scene.
Responders continue to search for the body in Newcastle Reservoir.
