SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police Department and the SLC School District paired 50 children with a police officer for a holiday shopping experience they’ll never forget.
On the morning of December 3, officers kicked off the day with a breakfast at the Little America Hotel downtown. Then, the children rode in the passenger seat of their paired officers’ police car to a nearby Target.
The car ride included a police escort from SLCPD SWAT Team, complete with lights and sirens, said a release from SLCPD.
Once the officers and children arrived at Target, Santa made a surprise landing provided by AirLife Utah. After Santa Clause landed, children shopped for holiday gifts they received as a donation.
Also, each child received a backpack filled with school supplies donated by Essendant.
Officers from the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Police Department, the University of Utah Police Department, and the U.S. Federal Reserve Police participated as well.
