SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City tattoo studio is helping organize a statewide fundraiser in reaction to immigration enforcement and concerns shared by an artist with ties to Minnesota.
Strawberry Moon Tattoo Collective and a growing list of collaborating artists are behind the “SLC Tattooers Against ICE: Minnesota Fundraiser,” a campaign that now includes about 30 tattooers across Utah.
Founder and tattoo artist Sam Walker said the effort started as a small idea inside their studio — and quickly expanded.
“We were just going to do it, the three of us,” Walker said. “But the network of artists in Salt Lake is so strong and so amazing. So we reached out to like five other people and then they added more people and then they added more people. So it’s kind of been snowballing in a really beautiful way.”
Walker described Strawberry Moon as a collective studio model, and said the fundraiser grew out of conversations about how to help when people feel overwhelmed or unsure what to do.

Organizers say the fundraiser is tied to “Stand With Minnesota,” a website that lists mutual-aid and support funds. Participants are asked to donate directly through the site, then email a screenshot of their donation to Strawberry Moon so it can be counted as an entry for tattoo credit giveaways.
According to the fundraiser information shared on Instagram, entries are counted in $10 increments — with 30 tattooers participating and 30 winners expected. Organizers estimate the combined giveaway value at more than $9,000.
Walker said that within the first day after posting about the fundraiser, organizers had already over 5k in donation screenshots.
The entry period is open for two weeks, Walker said. Organizers plan to close entries on Feb. 10 and announce winners on Feb. 13.
People can find instructions and participating artists through Strawberry Moon Collective’s Instagram page.
