Enbridge Gas sued over fatal South Jordan house explosion

SOUTH JORDAN — The family of a teen killed in a home explosion is now suing the gas company that served their South Jordan neighborhood.
The lawsuit was filed today on behalf of the 15-year-old, who was a student at Bingham High School.
It claims the leaking pipe that was blamed for the explosion had been leaking at least a couple of days before the blast and should have been better maintained and inspected.
The family also said Enbridge Gas billed them for the use of natural gas on the day of and after the explosion.
The family is seeking economic damages, including the expense of their son’s funeral.
Enbridge Gas released the following statement regarding the lawsuit:
Our thoughts remain with the family impacted by this event. We’re unable to comment on the suit brought forward due to ongoing litigation. We also remain a party to the NTSB’s ongoing investigation and while federal regulations limit our ability to comment publicly, we are committed to contributing to the ongoing investigation.
