One teen arrested after shooting in Taylorsville McDonald’s Parking lot

SALT LAKE CITY — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Saturday in connection with a shooting that sent another teen to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Friday afternoon, according to Lt. Aaron Cheshire with TPD, a 14-year-old boy was shot in a McDonald’s parking lot after a fight broke out. He was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
Six schools in the area were placed on secure protocol, with Taylorsville High School being on complete lockdown. Police said the lockdown has since been lifted.
The shooting had no connection to the schools in the area, but police were dispatched to the schools as an extra precaution to ensure safety, according to police.
“They came on the announcements and said that the school was going to be locked down, and the teacher didn’t let anyone leave the classrooms,” said Taylorsville High School sophomore Alexa Tomek.
Tomek and her friend, fellow sophomore Shea Taylor, told KSL TV this isn’t the first time they’ve been put on lockdown.
“I mean, there’s been so many shootings happening recently and so many fights — I don’t get the point in them,” Tomek said. “It’s getting to the point where you don’t even feel safe at school.”
“It’s been happening too much,” Taylor said.
In a press release on Monday, the TPD said the shooting occurred during a fight between as many as 20 teens in the McDonald’s parking lot.
KSL TV observed at least three shell casings marked at the scene.
The following day, police said they received tips which led to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy. He has since been booked into the Salt Lake County Detention Center and is facing charges related to the shooting.
