STANSBURY PARK — A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody in Tooele County over the weekend after a 66-year-old man was found deceased in what the sheriff’s office is calling a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, about 10:45 a.m., emergency dispatchers received a call from a woman reporting “that a 14-year-old male family member was at her residence in the area of Malachite Way and Brigham Road in Stansbury Park and was making statements of self-harm,” according to a prepared statement from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office.

Minutes later, the woman called 911 again to report that “she had been injured and her husband remained inside the residence with the juvenile, who was armed with a knife.”

When deputies arrived, they found the injured woman outside the home receiving assistance from neighbors. Inside, they found the body of a 66-year-old man.

The 14-year-old boy was located about two blocks west of the residence shortly after deputies arrived in the area and was taken into custody without incident.

“The juvenile was evaluated by medical personnel and later booked into the juvenile detention center. The injured female was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries and released,” the sheriff’s office stated.

No other information has been released, including the name of the deceased man and the relationship between the teen and the couple.

The sheriff’s office says its investigation is ongoing.
