STANSBURY PARK — A 14-year-old boy taken into custody in Tooele County after a 66-year-old man was found deceased has been charged with murder.

The teen was charged in late June in 3rd District Juvenile Court with murder, a first-degree felony; attempted murder, obstruction of justice and causing property damage, second-degree felonies; damaging a jail, a third-degree felony; and interfering with police, a class B misdemeanor, according to court records.

KSL is not naming the boy at this time.

On June 20, about 10:45 a.m., a woman called police “reporting that a 14-year-old male family member was at her residence in Stansbury Park and was making statements of self-harm. Deputies were dispatched to the residence. Minutes later, dispatch received a 911 call from the female, who reported she had been injured and her husband remained inside the residence with the juvenile. She stated the juvenile was armed with a knife,” according to charging documents.

When deputies arrived at the residence they found the woman outside the home with “severe lacerations to her face,” the charges state. Inside, they discovered her husband, a 66-year-old man, “deceased with multiple large lacerations on his head and body.”

The teen boy was identified as a suspect by the woman. He was located by police about two blocks west of the residence and taken into custody “after a brief struggle with law enforcement officers,” according to the charges.

“The juvenile was evaluated by medical personnel and later booked into the juvenile detention center. The injured female was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries and released,” according to a statement from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office.

No other information has been released, including the name of the deceased man and the relationship between the teen and the couple. Court documents say the boy is 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, despite being just 14.
