1 dead, 2 in critical condition after truck hit two buses full of students in Sanpete County

SALT LAKE CITY — The driver of a truck that hit two buses carrying students died on Friday from injuries sustained in the crash on Highway 89.
The Utah Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at 8:30 p.m. in Ephraim where officials said a pickup truck was driving in southbound lanes when it drifted to the left.
According to the UDPS, two busses were traveling in the northbound lanes at that time when the truck grazed one bus carrying 19 students, and then hit the second bus carrying 17 students head on.
Two occupants from the second bus were flown to the hospital in critical condition, according to the UDPS. The driver of the bus and the rest of the students in the second bus were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
“The driver of the pickup truck a 43-year-old male succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash,” the UDPS said. “Fatigued driving is being suspected as the cause of the crash.”
The UDPS said there were no reported injuries in the first bus that was grazed.
