Pilot injured after ultralight aircraft crashes after takeoff in Garfield County

SALT LAKE CITY — A pilot was injured after a small ultralight aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from the Escalante Municipal Airport, three miles outside Escalante, Utah.
The pilot was transported via Classic Air Medical to the St. George Regional Hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to Garfield County Sheriff Wade Matthews.
Matthews said the aircraft was not regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration or the National Transportation Safety Board.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
