Utah Democrats react to President Trump’s State of the Union

Many Utah Democrats were quick to dismiss the president’s remarks.
Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski deriding the president’s clean-coal comment.
“There is no such thing as clean coal,” Biskupski tweeted, adding, “If we hold to the past we will never move forward.”She also urged Trump and Congress to end threats against so-called sanctuary cities that don’t enforce immigration law, including her own.
Democratic state Senator Jim Dabakis criticized President Trump for repeating the pledge to build wall. And Democrat Jenny Wilson, running for US Senate, says the border wall remarks were some of the more harsh moments in the speech.
But State House Minority leader Brian King spoke to KSL Newsradio live Wednesday morning about whether Democrats could have applauded.
“Sure, I think that paid family leave, they probably all ought to have clapped, I can’t believe they wouldn’t. Opiate crisis stuff; so, you are right, there is a lot of partisanship and divide among the parties back there,” he said.
He did like the president’s measured tone and language, and calls for unity. Hear his whole interview below.
