Utah drivers are ranked among the worst in nation

SALT LAKE CITY — Have you ever worried about other drivers as you have been out on the road? If not, maybe you should be. Utah drivers are ranked sixth worst in the nation, according to quotewizard.com.

According to the Department of Public Safety, there have been 44,100 crashes involving Utah drivers so far this year. In those crashes, 215 people have lost their lives.

The quote wizard website ranks Iowa as the worst driving state in the nation. In a span of one year, Iowa went from being the 23rd best driving state to the worst.

North Dakota, Virginia, California and Alaska round out the five worst driving states in the country.

North Dakota makes the list for one reason. No other state in the country issues more citations per capita than the Peace Garden State.

At the other end of the spectrum, New Hampshire is ranked as the best driving state in the country. Also making the top five were West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Illinois.

New Hampshire received the highest ranking for having the lowest citations, accidents, speeding tickets and DUIs. 

The Granite State jumped 16 spots from its ranking just one year ago.

West Virginia was ranked as the best driving state in 2020, but slipped to second this year. Drivers in West Virginia had very few citations, accidents or DUIs.

According to the quote wizard website, drivers in Tennessee, Massachusetts and Rhode Island got in the most accidents of any state. Drivers in Michigan, West Virginia and Oklahoma had the fewest accidents.
