SALT LAKE CITY — New numbers released from the Utah State Board of Education snow 87 percent of Utah high school students graduated in 2018.

Last spring, 47,487 students graduated from Utah’s public high schools.

It’s the 6th year in a row that the rate has increased. It has gone up 1 percent each year since 2013.

In the news release, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson said she was “heartened to see Utah’s educational outcomes improving over time.”

Graduation rates for minority students have risen faster. Asian students have a state-leading 92 percent graduation rate. Hispanic students are now up 10 percentage points to 78 percent.

“Achievement gaps still exist, but they are narrowing, and that is good news for Utah students and for the future of our state,” Dickson said.

Almost every student at Layton High School graduated. They lead the state with 98 percent graduation rate. Then Skyline and Ridgeline High Schools are each at 97 percent.
