Weber County deputy on administrative leave after arrest for domestic incident

SUNSET — A deputy with Weber County Sheriff’s Office is on administrative leave after being arrested for allegedly hitting his wife while intoxicated in January.

On Jan. 17,  Zachary Andrew Anderson, 38, was booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of assault, a class-B misdemeanor, and intoxication, a class-C misdemeanor, according to the police affidavit.

Sunset police said officers responded to a domestic incident where the victim, Anderson’s wife, accused Anderson of hitting her.

“A verbal argument was taking place when (Anderson) used unlawful force against the victim by striking her face with the back of his hand,” the affidavit stated.

Officers reported that an “obvious red mark” was left on the victim’s face.

According to the affidavit, Anderson had been drinking alcohol and had a strong order of alcohol coming from him. The affidavit stated that Anderson “was releasing the alcoholic vaper to the vapor to the degree that he was a danger to the victim.”

On Thursday, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said Anderson was off duty during the arrest and placed on administrative leave on Jan. 18.

“Due to the ongoing internal investigation and pending judicial process, no further information will be released at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
