2 teenagers dead, 15-year-old critically injured in crash

SALT LAKE CITY — A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy died in a crash in Juab County on Thursday, leaving a third teenager hospitalized in critical condition.
The Juab County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred on Weiss Highway at 6:17 p.m. when a Chevy Silverado pick up truck carrying the three teenagers ran off the road while heading westbound at “a high rate of speed.”
“All three of the juvenile occupants were not wearing safety restraints and were ejected from the truck,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said the boy died at the scene and the girl was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
The third teenager, a second 15-year-old boy, was hospitalized in critical condition.
“The exact cause of this tragic accident is still under investigation,” the sheriff’s office said. “However, the primary contributing factors are related to high speed travel and disuse of occupant restraints.”
