West Jordan city leaders sign resolution for city council to include minority input

WEST JORDAN — City leaders signed a resolution Monday designed to broaden peace, tolerance and justice in West Jordan through minority input.
The resolution was unanimously passed in June by the West Jordan City Council.
Resolution 20-01 creates a commission centered around creating more diversity within West Jordan’s city government. The commission will offer input and recommendations from minority communities to the city council.
“I thought, well what should the City of West Jordan do to take a stand,” said Councilmember Zack Jacob, “to say we will not tolerate racism, bigotry, or discrimination in our city?”
“This resolution will lead us to actively promote equality, and actively find ways to reach out and listen to people who have been not listened to for far too long.”
The resolution was signed by West Jordan City Mayor Dirk Burton and Council-Vice Chair Kelvin Green at a ceremony on Monday.
“After reading through the resolution and after seeing how it represents West Jordan, of who we are and where we are going, I was excited to join Councilmember Jacob and sign this resolution,” Mayor Burton said.
