WEST JORDAN – A police officer was placed under arrest Monday, after being involved in a road rage incident while allegedly driving under the influence.
According to the booking affidavit, the Utah Highway Patrol responded to a call about a vehicle crash near the area of 8200 West on state Route 201. It was reported that the vehicle went off the road and into a canal, according to UHP.
Upon arrival, UHP said troopers found a white Toyota pickup in the canal and identified the driver as 34-year-old Zachary Robert Allen.
The affidavit stated that troopers talked with the other driver involved in the wreck, who was driving eastbound on state Route 201 in their Bronco.
The other driver said Allen was allegedly driving recklessly by cutting off other drivers and traveling at high speeds.
UHP said Allen traveled closely behind the other driver before attempting to pass the Bronco on the left side in a short merge lane. The Toyota would then cut in front of the Bronco, striking the front bumper and crashing through a guard rail down into the canal.
While viewing dash camera footage from a witness, troopers stated that the Bronco and Toyota passed the witness in the left lane. The Toyota then attempted to pass the Bronco at high speeds without using its turn signals.
When speaking to Allen, UHP said he was trying to head home when the Bronco pushed him off the roadway.
A sobriety test was performed on Allen, and he was later taken into custody.
West Jordan’s PIO Marie Magers confirmed that Allen was a police officer with the West Jordan Police Department.
“We take this matter seriously and are conducting an internal review,” Magers said. “The city holds its employees to the highest standards of conduct and will take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation.”
