Hiker dies after falling off popular trail at Zion National Park

SALT LAKE CITY — One person died on Friday after falling off Zion National Park‘s Angels Landing hiking trail.
The West Rim Trail, Scout Lookout and Angels Landing trails were temporarily closed in the park as search and rescue crews responded to the fall, according to the U.S. Department of Interior.
The person was reported to have fallen off the popular hiking trail at approximately 2 p.m. The trails that were closed during search and rescue efforts were reopened by Saturday morning.
“Zion National Park worked with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Medical Examiner, Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue, and Kane County Search and Rescue on the fatality resulting from that fall,” the U.S. Department of Interior said.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the State of Utah Office of the Medical Examiner identified the visitor as 68-year-old Gilberto Ramos from Laredo, Texas on Monday.
