Presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden continued to gain more endorsements over the weekend from past presidential hopefuls. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) both threw in their support for the moderate frontrunner.

Kamala Harris endorsement

Harris endorsed Biden Sunday, saying he reflects the dignity and decency America deserves from its leader.

“When I started my run for president, I said America needs […] a president who speaks the truth,” Harris said in a statement, according to CNN. “A president who fights for those whose voices are too often overlooked or ignored. I still believe that to this day. That is why I am proud to announce I am endorsing my friend, Vice President Joe Biden, for President of the United States.”

Harris ended her campaign for president in December 2019 after failing to gain traction in the crowded field.

Cory Booker endorsement

Booker followed close behind, announcing his endorsement Monday morning — making him the latest high-profile former presidential candidate to endorse Biden.

“The answer to hatred & division is to reignite our spirit of common purpose. @JoeBiden won’t only win – he’ll show there’s more that unites us than divides us,” Booker tweeted. “He’ll restore honor to the Oval Office and tackle our most pressing challenges. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Joe.”

Booker ended his campaign Jan. 13, 2020.

Other candidate endorsements for Biden

The latest endorsements follow a wave of support for the former vice president, as he continues to rise as the Democratic frontrunner.

After his win in the South Carolina primary, Biden came out as the big winner of Super Tuesday — winning 10 of the 14 states and racking up the endorsements.

On the eve of Super Tuesday, the presidential hopeful gained the endorsements of previous candidates:

  • Former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg
  • Sen. Amy Klobuchar
  • Rep. Beto O’Rourke
  • Mayor Mike Bloomberg

Buttigieg offered his support after suspending his campaign, endorsing Biden as the best candidate to defeat President Donald Trump. The former mayor pointed to Biden as the candidate who “reflects the decency of the American people” — practicing that kind of politics his entire life.

Klobuchar suspended her campaign one day after Buttigieg, just hours after she visited Salt Lake City for a rally. She noted similar reasons as to why she chose Biden, saying he was the best candidate to face President Trump.

O’Rourke also threw in his support for the former vice president, saying he was the best choice for the country to reach its “ambitious goals” in the coming year.

O’Rourke ended his campaign for president Nov. 1, 2019, before primary voting began.

Bloomberg dropped out of the race the day after Super Tuesday, after failing to win any states and falling behind both Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders. Bloomberg tweeted that he entered the race to defeat President Trump, which was also his reason for dropping out.

He said the best shot to defeating the current president was to elect Biden.
