SALT LAKE CITY– Utah Governor Gary Herbert issued an Executive Order on Monday declaring a State of emergency due to civil unrest.

The executive order is in response to protests that rocked Salt Lake City on Saturday night. Effective immediately, the state of emergency order temporarily close the State Capitol Complex to the public. The capitol campus will remain closed until Saturday, June 6 at 11:59 p.m.

The order comes directly after Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall issued a week-long curfew, lasting until Monday, June 8.

Official State business will continue at the Capitol building throughout the closure. The building has been closed to the public since March 14 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
