SPRINGDALE, Utah — The show will not go on this summer at the O.C. Tanner Amphitheater, located in Zion National Park, due to flood damages. The flash floods caused Zion National Park to close down canyons in anticipation of the damages and safety of the public.

Zion flood damages

Damages, mainly to the facility’s parking area, will keep the amphitheater closed for the next six to eight months. According to officials with Dixie State University, the stage and seating areas did not experience as much damage.

However, the parking area and road leading up to the facility did suffer damage from the flood.

“It is going to take some qualified people and heavy machinery to fix this,” Josh Thayn, Dixie State’s executive director of events services and risk management, told St. George News

The stage and seating areas suffered more superficial damage while the parking lot suffered the majority of damages. St. George News reported the waterline showing the extent of the floodwaters reached doorknobs.

The show will not go on

The Zion Canyon Music Festival confirmed Thursday that the flood damages were too severe and repairs will not be done in time for the festival. This is the second year in a row where the festival has been canceled after having been suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The damages affect not just this event but all other events scheduled for the theater this summer, which will take place instead at the main Dixie State Campus in St. George, Utah.
