CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson had an strong showing in his NFL debut Sunday.

Wilson completed 20 of 37 passes for 258 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. However, the Jets lost to Carolina in the season-opener for both teams, 19-14.

However, Sunday’s debut was also an eye-opener for the former Corner Canyon High School star.

Wilson was sacked six times in the game. In addition, he was also hurried 10 0ther times.

“I’m getting better,” Wilson said to reporters after Sunday’s loss. “Experiencing you know having stuff in your face. You’ve got to play. That’s part of the quarterback position.”

The sixth sack was felt especially hard by Wilson, who described it like he had been hit by a truck.

“Neck’s a little sore,” he said. “A little whiplash, but I’ll be all right.”

After throwing a first half interception, Wilson hooked up with wide receiver Corey Davis for a pair of second half touchdowns.

The Jets (0-1) will play host to New England next Sunday.
