This story was updated to include the date of Joshua Lindsey’s termination from the Woods Cross Police Department.

WOODS CROSS, Utah — A former Woods Cross police officer now faces charges after firing shots at a truck that was fleeing from him.

The Woods Cross Police Department confirmed Joshua Lindsey was fired after their investigation was concluded. Chief Chad Soffee confirms that Lindsey was terminated on July 26, 2021.

The Deputy Davis County attorney filed charges of aggravated assault Tuesday against Lindsey. A probable cause statement said Lindsey was on duty Feb. 7, 2021, when he encountered a truck at Mannheim Auto Auction Property that was reported stolen out of Salt Lake City.

Lindsey caught up with the driver as that person left Mannheim Auto Auction Property and tried to speak with them, KSL reported at the time.

“He got out of his car, attempted to talk to the individuals that were in the pickup truck, and they had a little exchange. Shots were fired by my officer,” Woods Cross Police Chief Chad Soffe told KSL NewsRadio in February

Lindsey’s rounds hit the vehicle but missed the people inside, according to the probable cause statement filed Monday in support of the charges. Ultimately, police arrested two men after a short pursuit that ended with a crash in West Valley City. Their names were not released by police.
