KSL TV’s Matt Rascon spoke to officials on scene about the accident.
They told Rascon, the driver crashed just before 3 a.m. at the top of the off ramp. He travelled across all the lanes on the highway and collided into the concrete barrier on the opposite side. He continued down the on ramp before finally coming to a stop.
No traffic going east or west on bangerter highway over I-15 right now. They’re directing traffic onto SB I-15. On ramp onto NB I-15 is closed. You’ll of course want to find an alternate route if this is part of your morning commute. @KSL5TV #traffic https://t.co/p3SssDqN8g pic.twitter.com/T2PmMBVZ2S

When first responders arrived, the care was on fire and the driver was dead. UHP believe speed was the biggest factor in the crash’s severity.
Officials conducted an investigation for several hours following the crash. They investigated the scene and cleaned up the wreckage from around 3a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Avoid Bangerter at I-15. It is CLOSED both EB & WB over I-15. Everyone heading east will be forced onto I-15 SB. Delays stretch back to the railroad tracks.
The ramps to and from NB I-15 is also CLOSED causing delays from Bluffdale to Draper. pic.twitter.com/fmbuDPKW4J— Heather Kelly (@KSLHeatherKelly) January 18, 2022
