Salt Lake City FD responds to structure fire Monday afternoon

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire Monday afternoon at 815 West 100 South.

According to Captain Anthony Burton, of the Salt Lake City Fire Department, the call came in at 1:30 p.m. When first responders arrived on the scene heavy smoke and flames were coming from the entire structure.

Burton said every window and door had flames coming through it. In all, Burton said the fire was violent in nature.

The structure was a single-family home, which was vacant at the time of the fire. Burton said that two sections of the home collapsed, including two walls in the roof section.

While there were no injuries reported from the fire, Burton said survivability inside a fire of that type was very low. As a result, crews fought the fire defensively from the outside.

Due to the dangerous situation for the firefighters battling the fire, additional crews were called in to help bring the fire under control. 

The cause of the Salt Lake structure fire is still under investigation. The estimated cost of damage to the home is not known.
