COVID-19 testing sites across Utah scheduled to close

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health plans to close many COVID-19 testing sites before the end of the week.
“As the state of Utah transitions to a Steady State response to the pandemic, the Utah Department of Health will transition to a more long-term, sustainable response,” said the Utah Department of Health in a statement released on Monday. “Many UDOH-sponsored testing sites are closing permanently and some will transition to private, for-profit vendors.”
Traveling COVID-19 testing sites will close as well on March 31.
These closures come after UDOH reports 255 new COVID-19 cases since Friday and four more deaths. The department of health also reported 112 cases on Friday, 87 cases on Saturday and 65 cases on Sunday.
Who should still use COVID-19 testing
UDOH recommends some Utahns continue to test. This includes:
- People with significant underlying conditions.
- Individuals who have been sick but are getting better and want to confirm they are negative.
- Individuals who plan to visit potentially vulnerable people. This includes individuals over 75 years, immunocompromised individuals and individuals receiving immunosuppressive medication.
- Individuals who are traveling somewhere that requires a negative test.
- Elderly individuals.
- Those who work with vulnerable populations like: healthcare workers, long-term care facility employees and people living or working in crowded settings, including those in prisons and homeless shelters.
