UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run in West Jordan

WEST JORDAN, Utah — West Jordan Police have identified the victim of a fatal hit and run as 13-year-old Eli Mitchell of West Jordan. Mitchell was a student at West Jordan Middle School.
Earlier on Wednesday, police identified the suspected driver in the fatal hit and run in West Jordan on Tuesday night.
The driver, Mason Andrew Ohms, age 50, is facing several charges related to the crash that killed a 13-year-old boy.
Police say Mitchell was riding a bicycle in a crosswalk when he was hit, and that the driver left the scene of the accident. He was transported to Intermountain Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

According to police, the crash happened at 1510 West 9000 South at 6 p.m.

“Our hearts are broken for this family who lost their child today,” said West Jordan police officer Samuel Winkler in a press release. “We have no words for why someone would leave another human in the road mortally injured and hope that the suspect does the right thing by turning themselves in.”
Suspect located and arrested
Just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, West Jordan Police announced the suspect had been taken into custody.
UPDATE… We want to thank all of the witnesses in this case as our officers have located the suspect and arrested him. He is currently being processed and his name will be released once booked into jail.
