SPANISH FORK, Utah — Yesterday night around 9:00 p.m., Utah County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a shooting near the south end of Utah Lake, on the west side of West Mountain. The initial 911 caller said one person was shot, later deputies found two people got shot.

One of the people shot is a 25-year-old man, the other person is in their mid-twenties. The man in his mid-twenties underwent surgery at Utah Valley Hospital and is in critical but stable condition.

UCSO says several witnesses gave descriptions of the person they believe to be the shooter and the car driven by the shooter. A deputy realized they had spoken to the suspects after getting witnesses’ descriptions.

The suspects and car, consistent with descriptions, were located several miles away.

The driver and passenger were taken into custody and interviewed.

The driver, who lied about his identity, is Cesar Matias Sevilla-Aleman, age 25. Sevilla-Aleman has a warrant for his arrest out of Denver, Colorado for failure to appear on a weapon offense, says UCSO.

“He is also being held on a detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Once Detectives get better clarification regarding the evidence they have collected they will add new booking charges for Sevilla-Aleman,” said UCSO in a press release.

The passenger, a 45-year-old woman, was released but may be charged at a later date.

The rodeo was operating without a permit.

Two men were shot at Utah Lake Sunday night. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said it has two suspects in custody.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the UCSO said the agency received reports of two men shot at a Mexican rodeo event on the west side of West Mountain last night.

Cannon said it still wasn’t clear if the men were each shot, or if they were both injured from the same gunshot.

One man was shot through the arm. Cannon said the victim would be okay, aside from having a scar from the injury.

The second man was shot through his abdomen. He was listed as being in critical condition this morning and was initially listed as a possible fatality. Cannon said the victim underwent surgery but had no further updates on the man’s condition.

Police are still investigating, but Cannon said there was no indication that the two victims knew each other.

The sheriff’s office said this morning that the two suspects in custody are being interviewed. Cannon added that police had interviewed the likely shooter but couldn’t confirm that the person was the yet.
