SALT LAKE CITY – Valter Nassi, founder of the Salt Lake City upscale Italian restaurant Valter’s Osteria has died. Social media comments have described him as a kind and generous man with a larger-than-life personality.
For those close to him, like his operating partner Jeramy Lund, Nassi’s passing hit hard.
“Valter was every bit the personality he is in the restaurant in real life and that’s what made it easy for him to be him,” said Lund. “He was full of life, he absolutely loved what he did and loved to invite people into his house, namely the restaurant, and just have them have a great time. And that’s why he could genuinely be everybody’s best friend.”
Local officials, including former Gov. Gary Herbert, used Twitter to share their condolences for the local legend.

Like so many, Trell and I are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Valter Nassi. We had many wonderful meals at Valter’s where he always made us feel at home. He was an icon whose impact on the SLCo community, culture, and culinary fabric will live on. Valter will be missed.
