Semifinalists for the new Utah flag design unveiled

SALT LAKE CITY — The finalists for the new Utah state flag were unveiled on Sept. 8 but were made available to the public in physical form Thursday at the Utah State Capitol.

The Utah State Flag Task Force announced the semifinalists after receiving more than 5,700 designs. However, Thursday was the first opportunity for the public to see the flags in person.

Utah Flag Finalist Sneak Peak: 19 glorious flags! Each design is inspired by a Utahn (or many) and represents hours of collaboration and volunteer design work. They are rich with meaning and share a strong connection to Utah.

The flags are on display at the state capitol and will remain on display until Oct. 5. All of the designs under consideration have been printed onto cloth to allow residents a better view. Additionally, similar displays are being held in Logan at the Cache County Historic Courthouse, and on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City.

The public will be able to provide comments about the finalists to the task force until Oct. 5.

If a new flag is selected, the current one will become the official flag of the Office of the Governor.
