Pedestrian killed on NB I-15 in Ogden, another in critical condition

OGDEN, Utah — One person has died and another was critically injured after an auto-pedestrian accident on northbound I-15 in Ogden.
The Utah Highway Patrol said that two people, both hauling construction equipment, had gotten out of their pickup trucks after stopping on the left shoulder of the freeway just prior to 24th Street. They reportedly got out of their vehicles to fix a flat tire.
Both pedestrians were hit by a northbound truck driving in the left lane.
“As the third pickup approached the two in the left emergency lane, it sideswiped the rear truck and trailer. It then continued forward, hitting two pedestrians as they attempted to get back into their vehicle on the passenger side,” said the Department of Public Safety in a press release.
UHP Sergeant Cam Roden said one of the pedestrians was thrown over the median onto the shoulder of southbound I-15. The other remained on the northbound side of the freeway.
The person who was thrown across the freeway was taken to a hospital by a medical helicopter but died from their injuries. At the time of publication, the second victim remained in critical condition.
The accident forced the temporary closure of northbound I-5 and most lanes of southbound I-15.
CLOSED! NB I-15 is now CLOSED to traffic across all lanes w/traffic being detoured in the area. One SB left lane remains blocked w/heavy delays both dir’s. Use Alt Route! Consider hopping off NB 15 at Riverdale Rd or prior to a surface street. @kslnewsradio @KSL5TV https://t.co/A9N1nyi3hy
