UHP says 65 motorists stopped for DUI over Halloween weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol says 65 motorists were stopped for DUI during the Halloween weekend (Oct. 28-31).
That is part of the holiday weekend statistics the UHP released on Wednesday. According to the UHP, the 65 motorists stopped were an increase over the past two years.
The UHP reports that 53 motorists were taken into custody for DUI last year. In 2020, the UHP says 56 motorists were arrested over the Halloween weekend for DUI.
During this year’s holiday weekend, the UHP made contact with 2,808 motorists. The UHP says 1,060 drivers were stopped for speeding. Of those motorists, 53 were stopped for speeding in excess of 100 mph.
During the 2021 Halloween weekend, the UHP made contact with 2,302 drivers. Of those motorists, 1,018 were stopped for speeding, which included 32 for speeding more than 100 mph.
The UHP reports there were 177 crashes during this year’s Halloween weekend with three deaths. In 2021, there were 167 crashes with 10 people losing their lives in the same time period.
