SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation is inviting the public to share its input with its study team regarding transportation alternatives for I-15. UDOT is accepting input until Dec. 16.

In a press release, UDOT said it has identified transportation alternatives for I-15 between Farmington and Salt Lake City. It is looking for public feedback to enhance these alternatives.

UDOT said it has identified these alternatives as part of the I-15 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The press release states, the company used “information gathered from technical analysis and public input,” to craft various potential I-15 alternatives. They are meant to make it easier for everyone to travel between Farmington and Salt Lake City. This includes drivers, walkers, bikers and transit users.

According to the press release, UDOT is considering two potential options to improve traffic flow and enhance safety on I-15. These include features at 17 different locations to make it easier for walkers, bikers and transit users to get around and multiple options at eight interchanges to connect communities and improve health.

UDOT wants your feedback

“Our aim is to strengthen the economy, connect communities, and improve health and mobility for everyone who uses the I-15 corridor,” said Tiffany Pocock, UDOT I-15 project manager, in the press release. “Comments, suggestions and feedback from the public are essential to accomplish these goals as we further analyze and recommend transportation solutions for this area of I-15.”

UDOT said the impact on businesses, properties and the natural environment is not known at this time.

UDOT invites the public to the following open houses to learn more about I-15 alternatives and offer feedback:

  • Nov. 14 – virtual meeting from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Nov. 15 – open house at Rose Park Elementary from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Nov. 16 – open house at South Davis Recreation Center from 5 to 7 p.m.

One thing UDOT will discuss at these meetings is the intersection of 400 North on the east side of I-15 near the Megaplex Theater in Centerville. Project designer Doug Graham says improvements along Parrish Lane include the possibility of a bypass exit lane.

“There is potential for a bypass exit lane that allows those exiting the freeway to go underneath Parrish Lane and go to the northside of Parrish Lane and connect into the frontage road,” Graham said. “It is really similar to an exit in Sandy at I-15 and 106th South.”

Information on the virtual meeting and additional details on how to provide feedback can be found here.
