SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed an “Officer-Involved-Critical-Incident” early Friday morning.
According to SLCPD Spokesman, Brent Weisberg the incident started around 2:30 a.m. Weisberg said officers attempted to contact two suspects with felony warrants in a vehicle near 1300 W Arapahoe Ave. Weisberg said the vehicle drove off leading to a pursuit. The chase ultimately ended when the driver of that vehicle crashed into another car near 500 N Star Crest Drive.
The driver then exited the car and ran towards a home. According to police, that’s when 3 officers fired their weapons. The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Weisberg said in a news conference, based on the information they have at this time, they believe the driver had a weapon. The passenger surrendered after the crash.
4 officers total are now on paid leave as the investigation continues.
