SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash at 600 North and 1200 West in the Rose Park area.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m. Tuesday when a vehicle turning to go East on 600 North hit the man, according to Michelle Peterson, Detective with Salt Lake City Police.

At this time, police believe the man was in the crosswalk heading north towards Smith’s.

The driver of the vehicle and a witness immediately tried to help the man.

Then, Peterson said a second vehicle, also turning Eastbound onto 600 North, hit a bystander and the original victim.

According to Peterson, the bystander sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the initial victim died on the scene.

The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Alan Dice.

Both drivers stayed at the scene after the crashes.

Salt Lake City Police said that traffic is expected to be impacted for several hours.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no other information is currently available for release.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
