SPRINGVILLE, Utah — A 79-year-old man died Friday afternoon in a house fire in Springville, according to emergency officials.
A neighbor originally spotted the fire and immediately tried to help. The fire was in the area of 800 S. 400 East.
“So that neighbor courageously ran across the street to try to make entry into the home,” said Chief Lance Haight of the Springville Police Department. “But was unable to do so due to the smoke and flames.”
The neighbor then called dispatch at 1:51 p.m. However, when emergency crews arrived on the scene, the man had already passed away.
Haight says the victim was on medical oxygen but is unsure if that was a cause of the fire.
“It appears by all accounts to have been accidental,” Haigh said.
Haight says the man had lived in the home for more than 40 years.
Fire crews from Spanish Fork, Salem, Payson, Mapleton and Payson also responded to the fire.
The investigation into the Springville house fire is ongoing.
