Great Salt Lake rises two feet, more winter weather coming

SALT LAKE CITY—After hitting its lowest level in history before winter, the Great Salt Lake has risen two feet, thanks to all the rain and snow.

According to an article published through the Great Salt Lake Collaborative, the lake only rose a foot all of 2022.

And the good news for the lake continues with more winter weather expected to hit Utah.

National Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Monica Traphagan said more rain and snow are coming to northern Utah Wednesday.

There’s a better chance of rain, but still a chance of snow in valley locations.

As of early Wednesday morning, about 7 inches had fallen in some areas of the Wasatch Mountains.

Southern Utah will also get rain and snow in some areas, though there are no flood warnings or watches at this time.

But, the big change comes Friday when temperatures drop to the upper 30s, which is 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Traphagan said it’s going to feel more like January.

With those colder temperatures, snow in the valleys is much more likely, though Traphagan said it’s more likely it’ll fall late morning or early Friday afternoon, which should help the commute.
