SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Utah Highway Patrol is warning of scam callers pretending to be a UHP trooper on behalf of homeland security, and the calls are coming from a working UHP line.
“They are spoofing that number that is actually connected to the Utah Highway Patrol,” said UHP Sargent Cameron Roden. The agency believes the crooks are trying to give validity to their scam to get personal information.

Roden said about a handful of scam calls have been reported to their office.
“Never would there be any time that UHP would contact anybody — or even for some reason being connected with homeland security — that we would request financial information,” said Roden.
Roden said UHP may reach out if they were investigating a crash, but not to ask for payment.
The agency does want you to reach out if you’ve been called so they can gather more information on who might be doing this.
