SALT LAKE CITY — In the aftermath of Rep. Chris Stewart’s resignation, R-Utah, on Wednesday morning, candidates on both sides of the aisle are starting to make their intentions known about being a potential replacement for the Utah congressman.
Utah Sen. Kathleen A. Riebe, D-Cottonwood Heights, tells KSL NewsRadio’s Lindsay Aerts that she will be running for the seat.
#LATEST Dem State Sen @Mskriebe confirms to me she’s running for the #CD2 seat.
“I was contemplating this run in three years but now might be better,” she said.

Democrat Kale Weston is considering a run for the seat. Weston sought the 2022 Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate. In 2020, Weston ran against Stewart in the 2nd Congressional District.
Yes, I’m seriously considering seeking the Democratic nomination in the upcoming special election in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District — a big & beautiful, urban & rural, district that I know well & have deep family roots in across generations. #utpol
