SLCPD seize two firearms during enhanced patrol operations this weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department seized two firearms during its enhanced patrol operations this past weekend.
According to a SLCPD press release, enhanced patrol operations focus on “deterring crime and providing a sense of security to our community.” The operations will continue throughout the summer.
The first of the two firearms, according to the press release, was apprehended Sunday morning at 1:50 p.m.
Detectives with SLCPD’S Violent Criminal Apprehension Team approached a parked car.
The press release states that as police got closer to the vehicle they noticed the passenger-side door was open. Within the car, they saw an extended ammunition magazine and a gun on the passenger side’s floorboard.
22-year-old Angel D. Aguado-Estrada, who was in the car, refused to exit. However, officers were able to safely take Aguado-Estrada into custody and seize the firearm.
According to the press release, Aguado-Estrada was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of public intoxication and one count of carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The second firearm was apprehended at 4:26 a.m. Sunday. According to the press release, SLCPD were investigating a report of a fight in the area of 351 South West Temple. During this investigation a firearm was recovered by police.
The firearm has been booked into evidence, according to the press release. No arrests resulted from this investigation.
