SALT LAKE CITY — The estate of Eric Richins is suing Kouri Richins, his wife, for at least $13 million.
A spokesman for the family tells KSL NewsRadio the new lawsuit accuses Kouri Richins of taking money from retirement accounts set up for Eric by his grandmother and mother.
Kouri is currently waiting for her trial to begin. She is accused of intentionally poisoning her husband.
Citing an informant, charging documents said a third party provided Richins with fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, multiple times. An autopsy on Richins’ husband prompted a search warrant and then an arrest.
The case has gained national attention because Richins wrote a children’s book about how to cope with grief after the loss of a parent.
