SO. WEBER, Utah — The Davis County Sheriff’s office confirmed the identities of the two people killed Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in South Weber were Cpl. Steven Lewis and Dep. Jennifer Turner.
Lewis and Turner were a couple, both had been with the Davis County Sheriff’s office for some time.
“Cpl. Lewis was a great leader, had been at our office for about five and a half years,” Sparks said. “He was a great up-and-coming leader, a very stoic man.”
Deputy Turner had been with Davis County for three years.
“She was a great deputy … assigned to work with our ankle-monitor program, which is a prestigious and important job.”
Stephanie Dinsmore, with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, says the accident happened near 725 E. South Weber Drive around 4 p.m.
Dinsmore said the motorcycle was traveling eastbound and failed to negotiate a curve. According to Dinsmore, the motorcycle collided with a pickup truck that was pulling a dump trailer. The deputies were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck is cooperating with authorities. Whether the truck driver was injured is unknown at this time.
“The tragic passing of Corporal Steven Lewis and Deputy Jennifer Turner is devastating to all of us,” said Sheriff Kelly V. Sparks. “Both were very impactful in their positions at the Sheriff’s Office and will be deeply missed. I know they were both excited about their future together.”
Dinsmore says the UHP will take over the investigation.
