DUTCH JOHN, Utah — Fire officials reported Thursday that the Sunny Cove Fire is roughly 80% contained, and crews completed a line around the blaze.
The fire broke out Monday near Flaming Gorge Reservoir and is 85 acres in size.
Additionally, fire officials also reported Thursday that fire activity was minimal and minor interior smoldering.
“Firefighters continue to improve the fire line and put out hot spots as they are identified,” said Flaming Gorge District Ranger Bryan Wilson.
The fire was started by lightning on Monday, July 17. It is located roughly three miles northwest of Dutch John.
Out of concern for public safety, the Mustang Ridge Campground at Flaming Gorge Reservoir was evacuated. An area closure is in place with access to the campground and to the Mustang Ridge boat ramp.
Currently, there are three fire engines and two hand crews on scene of the fire.
