LOGAN, Utah — It’s like a scene from a John Wayne western movie. Hundreds of cattle line one side of the highway up Logan Canyon, with men and women on horseback guiding them.
Listen to KSL Newsradio’s Aimee Cobabe’s full report below.
Madelyn Kunzler said they’re moving the cows from one grazing spot to the next. According to Kunzler, it’s cheaper to do it the old fashioned way
“We’re going to get on the highway in Logan Canyon, we’re going to go up there two or three miles. It’s up to the next cattle guard,” Kunzler said. “And then we’ll pull off and get off the road. But till then, traffic is going to be a little rough.”
They try to let traffic get past them, according to Kunzler, but not everyone is a fan of the long line that inevitably starts to form.
“Every year, somebody’s car gets kicked by a cow cause they’re too close,” Kunzler said. “And then you get other people who are mad, who will drive by at top speed.”
Jennifer Hales and her family were so delighted by the sight, they turned around to watch the show.
“My daughter, she loves animals, so she’s like, ecstatic,” Hales said. “I think it’s pretty awesome.”
The cattle drive is expected to take over part of the highway again Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
