SLCPD investigating bank robbery and suspicious package

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department investigated a bank robbery and the discovery of a suspicious package Friday afternoon. The department called its Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) to assist in the investigation.
The initial incident occurred at a credit union near 800 South and 200 East. According to police, one man was safely taken into custody after a short negotiation.
Officers have safely taken a man into custody after reports of a bank robbery near 800 South & 200 East.
Due to an unattended bag, we have asked employees of the bank to evacuate.

During the bank robbery investigation, officers discovered a bag on the ground. Due to the suspicious circumstances, the police requested the assistance of the HDU. The bag was later determined not to be a threat.
The credit union was evacuated. Employees of the Salt Lake Arts Academy were also evacuated out of caution. One business was asked to shelter in place during the investigation.
No injuries were reported.
