MURRAY, Utah — Murray City Fire Department responded to a fire at the TNT Gun Range in Murray around 3 p.m. The fire started near the end of the 100-yard underground range.
Chief Joseph Mittelman with Murray City Fire said that the rubber material that catches the bullets at the end of the range is what caught fire.
Investigators are still unsure of what caused the fire but believe it was from a bullet’s spark.
Fire crews from the Murray City Fire Department, Unified Fire Authority, and South Salt Lake Fire Department responded.
Because of the rubber material, the fire resembled a tire fire. Crews worked to suppress the smoldering fire for approximately 45 minutes.
Crews will remain on site to oversee repair teams to ensure the fire is completely out.
No injuries were caused, and no other structures were threatened as this happened below ground and at the end of a 100-yard shooting range.
