SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox announced Thursday that a federal nutrition program for Utah moms and their children, WIC, will remain available through the month of October in the event of a government shutdown.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children currently serves more than 44,000 Utah moms and children who, without this guarantee, would likely be in limbo if the government shuts down.
Benefits for Utahns will be available through October using funds from the United States Department of Agriculture, according to a release from the governor’s office.
